I'm an idiot!

Sometimes a guy has just too much free time on his hands and the "I wonder what would happen if?" comes into his head. In that vein, I thought what would happen if I dialed  some of the redway presets up a tad...Like 16 GI passes and 128 sample rate to name but a few....Well it's been rendering for 24hrs and its on the 11th GI pass...lol. I've used as a benchmark the media unit posted in "Daz materials" which was at Daz highest. I suspect that the resulting image will be pretty much the same, as it's a diminishing return but hey...I'm curious. I'll post an image in a couple of months when the render finishes..lol.

Yes! ...how true!...My internet browsing is like it was in the 90's in terms of page render speed but I'm determined to see it through to the end. On the upside, my CPU is helping the warming of my flat and warding off the "Beast from the East!"

You do know that setting the sample rate to 128x equates to (128x128) so 16384 samples for portals at openings...

Yes...an exponential increase. I probably should have asked "Is this an idea?" but red wine and derring do got in the way. I'm too far into the render to quit now but at the worst, I'll have learnt something......DON'T DRINK RED WINE!!!

I would suggest a violent massage chair like this one.... it reduces the Red Wine intake as you can see...

Well disaster struck but I think whats proved is there is no point going above Daz Highest. This image was 128 light samples as opposed to 64 amongst others with 7 GI passes. As you can see, no material difference in the image........What was I thinking 16 passes!

Thanks Daz high praise indeed!.....The bump map is set at .06 but in retrospect I'd probably take that lower.

Would be great to see a photo of the finished bedroom and compare it to the render!...

Unfortunately no Daz.....This is me just dicking around with ArtiCAD and making myself a screen saver. Having said that , I priced this and it came out at about £3800.00 which for bang for buck I think is pretty good.

Looks fantastic, love the rug texture too, what bump map did you use for that please? Honestly though, you don't get more photo realistic, how could a client not be delighted with it!? if it sells the job, its been worth every effort almost blowing up your computer.... ! hope you get it, keep us updated

Hi Jane.....Amplitude was sent to .15 but to be honest, I don't really know what I'm doing. Just ticking boxes and changing numbers...lol
