Empty room just to show centre island
Wed Feb 27, 2019 4:46 pm
Hello all,
I'm currently designing only a centre island for a client therefore dont want to waste time modelling the entire kitchen which is a huge room. Thought best idea would be to create empty room and take 4x views around the island. However, i cant find a good room setting to make this work, I've included 1x window to allow light in as if not it renders incredibly blotchy and rubbish. This is my latest effort..... any help appreciated!

Why not not bother with a room at all so you have not got to bother with really high render setting to get a clean render...
Just a thin cylinder on the floor and PREMSC Sheen edited materials even on the Psycho Cat. Oh... that brought back memories as I often worked late at Holtams Kitchens and Bedrooms and would sneakily put Psycho Cat in Richard Newtons ArtiCAD's plans.... always used to make me piss myself when he was presenting to his customer and the Cat would show up....those where the days....jumpers for goal posts and all that...
Anyway back to this - Lighting is just the sky with no colour cast and sun off..
It also looks like you have got the dreaded reversed normal problem looking at the nearest turned corner post...

That's fantastic Daz. I have lots of occasions were its just a couple of bedside unit add ons and that looks classier.

It's getting more like a setup for a Product presentation just add a few props...(Which Jayne has an eye for)... probably leave the Psycho Cat out unless you don't want a sale haha...
You can take this further using the 3 light (one key light) photographers use using lit appearance on a interior arch graphic (so you only has a one face light unlike using a box) and altering colour, size and brightness for more control in your renders...

Daz. brilliant as always, this is a huge time saver! could you please drop the file into dropbox so i can look at exactly what you done with the lighting? (really i just want to steal the cat.....jokes....)

Okay Jayne... yeah renders are fast as no portal problems, passing through glass issues and it is being lit from all sides by the sky rays. Reflections from the white background also keep the noise levels down...
I have attached the *.kit file zipped up... you will need to point the "Cylinder" and all the Unit material textures to your images but all the settings in them should be okay.
There is nothing special about the lighting (default point light off, sun off, zero colour cast i.e - sun/sky saturation = 0 so colours are more accurate no white balance required then) it is just the complete sky elevated a bit higher and the GI does the rest regarding shadows etc...
The Psycho Cat is included Free Of Charge... Use at your own peril....

Thanks Daz, this is exactly what ive been looking for, will be using this method loads going forward, such a time saver! This one came out quite noisey and a little pixelated too (rendered at Daz highest) so i need to work on my materials but still reckon its good enough for client presentation. Many thanks again!

Look great Jayne.... Not sure why you would have so much noise but I think it could the the Bug that's in RedSDK "the blotching". I will make another render settings file for this.
The Daz Highest is good with 64x samples anyway when no portals are being used so you get good quality.
I will do another setup so you don't need to use the sky and based on the 3 point lighting that photographers use which will give you more control over highlights and light colours...
I will also make a graphic you can use for the stage base that will use transparency to fade the edges of the disc into the white background as I use this method in TurboCAD...
Edit... I take it Psycho Cat is round the other side...

Never thought of that Daz and I too have modelled a lot of rooms just like Jayne and never got the result i wanted.
I'm delighted that Jayne asked the question #neverthoughttoask
Designs looks good Mitch & Jayne

Looks Beaut Jayne.... Makes the eyes focus on the furniture rather than the rooms walls for things like this.

will be sure to give this a go. Daz honestly, you should be teaching courses on these techniques!
