Tongue and groove doors
Sat Jun 16, 2018 3:57 pm
Are there any set doors I can access in Articad that are just plain tongue and groove? I've had a request to make a kitchen like this, but am not sure how best to get this done using Articad. I started making cabinets in sketchup and bringing them in but I'm having difficulties with oven cabinets etc.

I think the quickest way is to use a displacement map on the standard door style "Laminate Knob".... I will add a map for you to try out to see if it gets the effect you require...

Thanks! Not that I've ever heard of a displacement map but I can see that makes sense! Would make it a lot easier than having to draw every item out myself.

Here you go... try the attached map out...made the panels look cupped slightly by using a gradient from black to white from the groove lines.

Fantastic, thanks so much!
How do you go about doing the drawing for this? And what is it that the amplitude setting actually does with it?
So grateful for this - you've saved me hours of messing about!

Displacement maps create actual 3D geometry at the material level so black areas will be lower than the white areas. Yes the amplitude is how much height it generates...

OK, so they work in black and white and shades in between only? I'll have to experiment with this. Really useful, thanks!
What's the difference between that and bump mapping?

Bump mapping is faking it... the downside to displacement is extra rendering time....
