FWIW, I prefer v21! Yes, there are still some bugs but they are easy to get around now and speed doesn't seem to be an issue now. Render times are better and changing colours and textures is a LOT more streamlined.

Not sure what build 28 has fixed though, yet again it just seemed to over-write a lot of stuff.

I'm only using v20 now when it's a really old file that I need to go back to - although I have moved a few older ones over to v21 to make life easier!

Yeh, once i got my head around the texture dialog I could see it was an improvement, but I just value my time more than being a paying beta tester.

I think its the loss in faith that with an update one problem may be solved but another is more than likely created (im usually an optimist but from the experience and lack of communication since V21 its really difficult to have any faith in the program changes).. I mean to still not have a log of changes in each build is unbelievable.

I'm with Michael, prefer V21 now and get along with it fine.

Take the plunge Luke - it will take you 2 or 3 designs max to get used to it.

Some of the supplier textures weren't loading for me, but I re-installed the cats and they worked fine after that!

I've never attempted to update to V21 yet......if I do, am I likely to encourage issues with files not opening/models not loading and suppliers catalogues being missing? Any key advice/things I should do prior to installing V21 to help it run as smoothly as possible? Nervous I will lose all my save textures/favourites etc?

Jayne..
I am running the 28 build and seems a lot better now. As many of us are doing, I created a separate folder "ArtiCADV21" so not to overwrite the V20 installation.
I think going forward they should stop making it update an existing version as this has two benefits:

1. The users do not have the issue of finding bugs that stop workflow and can end up giving us the headache of disappointing our customers because we cannot design due the the software not working. We will always have the older version to get the job done.
2. Learning new features like understanding the new Material Editor.

One thing that would be beneficial is to have either the installer or an option in the program to make it easier to collect all the V20 favourites, sketchup and drawing folders and catalogue paths so we don't have to do this manually or have copies..

Jayne, why not ask ArtiCAD to do this for you remotely... so you can run V20 and V21....?

V21 Build 28 now availible Empty Re: V21 Build 28 now availible

I'm now running V21 on a desktop and on a laptop. Update one, run it, then update the other if it's ok. I'm still running v20 for older stuff because i don't want to reset all the finishes unless it's a small job or a major overhaul of a larger one.
The hardest part with favourites was the Sketchup issues. These all seem to have been addressed now. (fingers crossed).
I'm Syncing to Google Drive so all the common stuff gets copied over at the end of a shift.
I guess you could sync these on the same machine between a V21 and v20 installation or 2 x v21 builds.
The main Articad files i synchronise are :

  1. the design folder (but don't forget that v20 won't open a v21 model once you've changed/overwritten it).
  2. Articad\kitchen\cameras\ (all)
  3. Articad\kitchen\profiles\  (all)
  4. Articad\kitchen\attachment_types.txt
  5. Articad\kitchen\Custom.MaterialsLibrary.MaterialsLibrary
  6. Articad\SketchUp
  7. accelerators.txt
  8. C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\ArtiCAD\favourites\ (folder)
  9. C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\ArtiCAD\favourites.xml
  10. C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\ArtiCAD\ArtiCADSettings.xml

There are bound to be others that you might want but these are enough for me, so far.

Tue Aug 14, 2018 9:01 pm
New on Here, just thought id let you know ive had no end of problems with version 21 since installing, they managed to get it running quicker via remote. Like an idiot I decided to do an update with the latest patch it runs so slow now its ridiculous. wish I'd never bothered, Articad aftercare is garbage aswell, just my 2p worth. Looks like I will be back on the phone again tomorrow

Joe. There's a lot of Sketchup models in my favourites that i canned and reinstalled. I checked today and the ones i haven't changed are still offset from the pick area. My apologies. I am finding that the v21 models are rendering quite well straight out of the tin without too much tweaking. The lighting is still hit and miss though. Darryl's tutorials are invaluable. He's really helped me understand lighting better - I just need more time to tweak stuff. Because I’ve got such a backlog I've had to rein in my ocd and just let them fly for now.

Yeah, very quiet Michael..... could have all left and gone onto ArtiCAD's most senior user forum thus making this one redundant....

Reality though, users are bored, have moved onto other software, contacting ArtiCAD directly, and it's holiday time.....

I don't believe for one minute that another forum could be more useful or interesting than this one!!!

Wish I could get a holiday, it's been manic here for the last few weeks and the inquiries are piling up..

I don't think it will be much longer before you will be able to make the move over Jayne, it does seem a lot more stable now - there's only a handful of glitches now and it is a lot faster too Smile
