Clarifications on the best GPU's for RedSDK Empty Clarifications on the best GPU's for RedSDK

can you tell us why Quadro's don't seem to be the GPU's to go for when these card tend to be recommended for CAD work as someone has just said the following:

"However, for just GPU rendering Redway3D does certify the NVIDIA GeForce 1xxx cards though (with the NVIDIA 378.66 GeForce drivers) – and these will give the best performance for your money. There are new no Quadros on their approved list… in fact, the Quadros they’ve approved are ancient (around 10 years old)."

Clarifications on the best GPU's for RedSDK Empty Re: Clarifications on the best GPU's for RedSDK

Hi Darrel,

REDsdk works on all kind of graphics. That said, it has no real "best" graphics as it behaves mostly like a game engine. So you can rely on classic hardware benchmarks that can be found everywhere on the net. Using REDsdk you'll be in the same performance / $ ratio like with other GPU intensive applications.

Note that this only apply to pure hardware rendering. Ray-tracing is mostly software based, so GPU don't matter with it.

Cheers,
Darrel

I understand the GPU rendering is more geared towards the 3D game GPU's but better understanding on GPU vs CPU rendering quality.

1. Will/is RedSDK going to have quality differences between GPU and CPU?
2. Can or does RedSDK use a hybrid Mode that maybe uses the GPU for the GI calculation and the CPU for the Raytracing. Again would the quality not be as good as CPU for all?
