That's an IDM door yes?
ArtiCAD do have a IDM cat if you have not tried that here - https://www.articad.com/members-area/overview/graphics-downloads/doors-manufacturing/

Thanks Daz, i actually have that catalogue but their version of slats are a great distance apart.
I'll just use that door and explain to the customer that they will get the one shown in the photo.

Here you go... I used the better Displacement map option as this makes the glass centre panels 3D as it modifies the geometry and is not faking it like Bump does. Size to 300mm and see all the options below to test it yourself
I have attached the Displacment Map... A blurred version of the Transparency map to slightly soften the corners.... hope this helps until the graphics are corrected..

Thanks Jane, yea sketchup warehouse and used Daz's materials calculator.
If you want it let me know and I'll send it over to you.

Thanks hope you get the sale!

Thanks, Nathan, Jayne and Dave.... Impressive render...
Displacement can be useful as it can simplify the need for modeling certain things. These are very early examples of experiments I did using them in TurboCAD which actually splits out Displacement and Bump so users can you both in some instances where the displacement is medium detail of a stone wall for the mortar lines and stones shaping. The bump then is good for the fine sandy mortar and imperfections in the stone faces.
Displacement in the render engine is real 3D Geometry and the example below show height even though the material is applied to a box... Bump is fake height. We pay for Displacement though in render times as it has it cannot currently make use of Embree....(Embree is a collection of high-performance ray tracing kernels, developed at Intel. The target users of Embree are graphics application engineers who want to improve the performance of their photo-realistic rendering application by leveraging Embree’s performance-optimized ray tracing kernels.)

Would you recommend using it in Articad? for example the stone face wall at the stove, or would it slow the render down too much.
I know how to make a bump map, how do you go about making displacment and transparency maps.

That's up to you Dave and how realistic you want it to look, but yes it is very useful in some instances as certain materials with just a bump can look fake. for Carpets it can look a lot better than bump. Probably using the displacement option on your stone wall will/should get rid of the straight lines on the corners of the wall.
You can use the same process as a bump map but we need to be careful of the scaling.... start with a really small amplitude as it is not always good on corners as it does not weld well at the moment. On my machine the higher I go in the Material Editor the longer it takes to generate the preview... So always lower the amplitude before adding/turning on the displacement option.
As you have probably worked out for yourself the Blacker parts of the image you use in the Displacement this is the lowest height. The Blacker parts of an image you use for a transparency map the more transparent the material is on those areas....Hence why a Black and White images work well for your Slats ;-)

Just had a play to use displacement to create a routered carving effect... Your Kontour Logo ;-)
I think I need to talk to Redway as displacement ignores the glossiness by the looks of it... but still a useful tool...
Got in closer.... maybe the glossiness with a Displacement map with areas set to 255RGB could be the reason as the rout has some glossy... the plot thickens.....

It is.... you could personalise them for customers like some have their names carved into the mantles etc. Sometimes these touches can create a good vibe with the customer...

Looks great Daz, it's great to know that and to be able to provide that level of detail to customers.

haha... thanks...
I use Serif Page Plus as it is so good for making the maps... Effects/inner glow with a black colour to soften and ramp the inside elevation faces...

I know, I know...AMD Threadripper 2 chip is launching soon with 32 cores but unfortunately the laptop will have to take precedence......in due course....when funds allow...
